Spirited away on day-off

Kinda weird, yes. I go on day-offs on Thursday and Saturday. Not your usual kind break from work. You can say that again...

But this day is kinda special. I decided to spend it all for myself. No rackets, no gimmicks, nothing. Just me, at home, watching movie, chatting away, downloading stuffs and all.

And today, i downloaded this cool Japanese cartoon entitled "Spirited Away". it's a really really nice thing to watch...

Amazed by his work, Spirited Away, I asked my aunt in Japan to send me other animated movies by Hayao.

Got the DVDs in two weeks. :)

pre employment roller coaster ride

As a student, we all learned how hard it is just to comply with all the requirements needed for school, starting with entrance exam requirements, to enrollment requirements, to class requirements, to graduation and clearance requirements... No wonder, it feels good to put an end to the role of being a student...

But now, the former student is faced with another set of requirements to finish- something that has to do with belonging in the working class...

Here is a checklist of things i need to do within this week:

1. Medical Examination

just did so a while ago, and it consumed my whole day, so i wasn't able to get the other requirements... hai, i have to do so tomorrow...

2. SSS

hmmm... Social Security System... which makes me wonder. how secured are we in the society? hahaha. any which way, i have to get it!

3. TIN

just got a message from HR. they will be the one to get it for me. yes. one more down...

4. PAG IBIG

hahaha! i just remembered someone telling me where to get it!

5. PHILHEALTH

cheers to health! sana di ako mawalan ng health sa pagkuha ng lahat ng mga ito!!!

6. POLICE CLEARANCE

as far as i know, wala naman akong krimen na ginawa... hahaha... i guess it won't take long...

same as above. though it takes days ata talaga...

have them already!!!!

alumnus. a true maroon alumnus

after i finished my ROTC course, i had been an alumnus of UP Diliman. But i was an alumnus yet without a course. But now, i can call myself a ture maroon alumnus, given that yesterday, i was able to finish and submit our thesis.

It took us two weeks of sleepless nights as well as deprivation of social loafing for us to submit it on time yesterday. But hell did it pay off!!!!!

Now, i am suffering from flu, and colds. I guess, all the stress is getting in me now... At least it just did so now.

Catch me again sometime kiddos!!! i kinda like the feeling of bumming around now and in the days to come. Gala tayo!!! Bilis!!! Leave me a message here.

jescom internship over!

i already finished my intersnhip hours at jesuit communications last tuesday. as soon as i was done with my interview at ABS-CBN for possible work, i went straight to Jesuit Communications (the reason why i was do darn respectable). i still have jobs pending to be done, since i was the one working on the finding guests for the sports legend episode. Got a text from sir Eugene Torre, so i have to do a follow-up call. i was also able to contact the handlers of Manny Pacquiao, who, by the way, is under GMA Artist Center now. (Sosy! When will i be under that too...)

It still is kinda sad to leave. fifty hours is kinda short. i must say, MAJORITY of the people there are nice, and can be your good older friends. Anyway, if i still have spare time, I'll go give these guys a visit! Thanks so much for all the help you guys gave me during internship! I'll surely miss my days at Sonolux.

lloyd of all trades tv series...

for our broadcast communication 130 class (program planning and building), we are tasked to create a tv drama series pilot episode. our group, 14K decided to tackle on a pressing issue on tuition increase by making a dramedy (drama comedy) on a freshman student, lloyd who would emerge as lloyd of all trades because of the odd jobs he will take on just to finish school.

after series of unfortunate events like flunking math, losing scholarship, family business marketing scandal, and being fired frompart-time work, he is faced with his first line of work- a nude model.

will he be able to make it? will he sacrifice everything just for school? will the quote "pag sa pera'y gipit, nakahubo, ika'y papaguhit" apply to him?

shooting guns on my mom's birthday

it's my mom's birthday today, but i am here, on the bus, waiting for the time it will leave for laguna. today is our scheduled final seminar for bc 198 class. i was calling mom, and texted her already. seems she still is asleep. I then remembered, we invited Casey over today. So i called her.

06:15am

Paola, Jei and i went to Philcoa to get the food we ordered at McDonalds. On our way back, the text driver is insisting that we haven't paid our fare! Paola then insisted taht we already paid. Plus, we have the driver and steward of the bus to back us up! Harhar! You can't fool us... by this time, Casey already arrived.

6:35am

At last, Ayin arrived! We can now go and bid UP goodbye, for now...

7:15am

We picked Jensen somewhere along Boni Avenue. During that time, the movie already started. it was not the type of movie you'll watch on ordinary mornings. APOCALYPTO. But no matter how gross the movie is taht early part of the day, no doubt, it still is a very nice movie, in terms od production design, story, cinematography and execution-wise. I must say, it's two thumbs up!

8:00am

i accompanied Jei in buying batteries when we pulled over for a pee break. Shucks, i missed some wonderful parts of Apocalypto. Any which way, when i came back, its head-cutting! Heads falling off, hearts being ripped, bodies falling... whew!

9:30am

Arrival at Canlubang, Laguna. There is a whole community in there. The bus wasn't able to maneuver well inside the camp because of the narrow roads and low electricity wires.

Guns!!! Guns!!! Guns!!! It has been a long time since I did some target shooting (way back UP ROTC NCO days). But i know i still have the spirit in me.

We have seven ammos each for .45, 9mm and m16. I had to borrow shades from Jomie dear because i don't have one today.

it was really really cool. I wasn't able to try firing 9mm during my stay in ROTC. 9mm's recoil is really loaded! Whew!

We had lunch a-la-boodle fight... I also missed this kind of eating, which we did a lot during my ROTC days. Nice, yummy food. Haha.

All over. On our way out of the camp, while waiting for the bus, it poured really really hard! We are all wet even if we had umbrellas. Well, it's kinda blessing, coz we weren't able to wash the dirt off our bodies

We are going around in Pansol, looking for the resort Sir reserved for us. After going around for a few minutes, we found it! It was heavenly and cozy! And what more can you ask for, videoke machine! And the water is warm... Swim away guys! (i guess i just have to post another entry. i still have to look for the pictures we had at the pool. and the pool entry will take long to narrate...)

was on my way to up when my phone was stolen by someone who doesn't look like a thief. (now, i know what it meant by the statement "looks can be deceiving", literally.)

i didn't react, because of the fear of the pointed object by my side. so guys, especially for those who ride the up-pantranco route, beware. be very cautious. and if you know that your life is in danger, just let go. your life is more precious than your things...

my bday celebration wasn't ov er, as i expected. dad just came home from work, and he wasn't able to be with us when we ceebrated. well, as the saying goes, better late than never... so, ill prepare first... see yah guys later!

well, my age has something to do with how i celebrated my birthday... i celebrated it twice, on the 31st of May and on the first of June. This was the first time it happened...

A lot of firsts has happened... And i would like to thank all the people that became part of this celebration. Thank you for giving the best gifts you could ever think of for me... I got the gift i was expecting for... happy moments with you guys...

we celebrated my birthday strolling the mall, dining out, singing, then playin at quantum's. nothing much. what made it special was the fact that my family is with me. and we plan to repeat it soon...

dvd marathon

after having a well deserved treat from the salon, my siblings and i rented dvd's for us to drool over with the whole week. ahehehehe... it was really really really nice to just do nothing once in a while... pero sana kasama ko siya...

yeah... i acknowledge the fact that it has been a while since i wrote something down in this blogsite. recently, i had been so busy doing stuffs for internship, work and all. there were many thiungs to write, but now that i have time to jot it down... i cannot remember. days have passed by so fast, and i just wasn't able to keep up with the pace.

the veritas experience...

this day marked the end of my internship in radio veritas. and i must say that it is an experience worth my while not just because i learned and observed how it is to work in a commercial station and how different it is to operate it compared to dzup 1602. not just because i was able to have something to do this summer. not just because it is part of academic requirements. but because i met a lot of new friends, fellow interns and supervisors alike.

at this point, i would like to say thank you... for a heartwarming stay, for the heartfelt welcome...

to jose, wana, vianne, shane, chris, monica, vitoria, kathryn, emman, karlo, gino and the other guys who i have known by heart and face (unfortunately, not by name...)

to ate haydz, ate ai, ate dang, kuya ervin, ate kharla, ate renee, sir vic, sir jemuel, mam lani, ate jack, kuya erick and others...

i don't know why people see me as a love doctor whom they can ask when they have relationship problems. wahehehehe. am i that veteran-looking when it comes to luv? wahehehehe.

rest mode!

well, it has been a while since i felt this. as my friends would say, this is how vacation should feel like. to just do nothing. to watch tv and enjoy, to surf the net, to update this darn blog, to chat. and too eat, sleep, drink and be merry. wahehehehehehehe.

hai... next week, it will be another heck of a week. i will start training at veritas. And edit my segment at Jescom. And do work at DZUP before summer ends. Hai... wish me luck!

program director, script writer, host!

today, it was so much busy. This day, i am the day's over-all prgram director at the station. Plus i have two shows to host, and a drama script finale to produce and direct. Cannot it be any happier?

Well, capped the night off with a dine-out. It was Chris' idea to have dinner at Pizza hut for a cheezy volcano experience.

this day marks day one of being a segment producer for jesuit communications! waheheheheh. it was an exciting and nerve-wrecking experience to think about, since i will take charge of getting m.o.s. (man-on-the-street) shots for AFJ.

the good (and bad thing) about this segment is working with kids. it was an awesome experience to direct kids, if and only if they cooperate the way you want them to. That is not always the case. There are instances wherein you have to run, beg, plead, and all just to have them.

Anyway, it was a wonderful experience. ANd i will be doing so until august or september. Wish me luck on my next endeavors!

i'll meet ge ang at tutuban today to get the cd installers i borrowed from her. and what a day it was! went to tutuban alone, commuting. Not by taxi, but by PUJ. Dang! Wahehehe.

Saw lots of things that caught my eyes. Good thing i didn't bring money. Or else... BANCRUPTCY MODE AGAIN. Wahehehehe. I just settled for a strawberry frost blend.

the internal joke about matt apostol came to a full drama script! yup! that will be the first drama anthology to be offered to the listeners of DZUP 1602. That means, i'll be the main character of the drama for a whole week! Talk about sudden fame! Wahehehhehe.

i am rushing today. i need to go to antipolo with my dear buddy bambam to get ma'am jo's signature for our internship. then i need to give chris the paper so he can go to kbp and file the paper. then, i have to meet my baby for a planned date sa kanila. turns out di kami tuloy sa date. hai...

engaged to be married...

yes, this is official... i am engaged. to be married. at long last. after a long time of waiting, of hurting. of longing... i am at the crossroad of my life.

in a while, at the right time, i will say goodbye to all the perks of singlehood. and i will enter a life worth sharing with someone so special...

i am shifting from sole authorship to a life of partnership. we hold the pen together, as we write the pages of our lives together...

cine veritas 2007 special!

today, chris and i were invited to attend cine veritas awards night in siena college as one of the nominees in the best in editing category.

we really thought we were so late because we arrived there aronund seven. (in the invites, it stated that the program will start at 6.) good thing was that when we arrived, the program hasn't started yet.

to cut the long story short, the movie ilanto, the project we did with marie, kath and john won the best picture, best original screenplay, best poster and best in musical scoring categories. we also won in the best in editing category. it really is a wonderful night for us.

but it didn't end there. the night has just begun.

to celebrate this day, the whole organizers,with the guests and sir deo, went to dencio's. the night started at 11. we failed to get the seats with the best view. but what the heck. what is most important is that evferyone is there. ayt! cheers everyone! we all needed the break!

film review: the dreamgirls

for one, it has been a long time since i made a film review. grabe, that was way during the sem i was taking a film elective. haha. at the terminal ang huli kong nagawan ng review.

pero this movie is worth making a review. it is only once in a year or so that you will encounter a film that isn't made up of formula (the ones that you see almost everyday, dressed up in different manners...) isa pa, hango talaga ang movie na ito sa isang musicale.

i am referring to the acclaimed movie, dreamgirls (starring beyonce knowles, introducing jennifer hudson)

casting wise, the movie got itself talented artists that carried the roles well. and i must say they all sing really well. especially the part where everyone confronted at the stage. (my friend, jhay, will have to agree with me on this.)

plot wise, it is a strong plot, given that it is an adaptation of a broadway musicale. it is written within a context of historical basis (the black american discrimination and dissension)

visual-wise, what can i say? the visuals rock!!!!!! the editing has been done nicely that made good use of quick cuts and rhythm, since it evolves on music.

when it comes to audience reach, i must say that it captivated a wide spectrum of audience. it is the music that brought all the demographics together to appreciate the film.

haaaaayyyy!!!! i am not regretting that i have watched dreamgirls, even if it means that i have to spend the night awake to compensate for the time lost.

As part of the celebration of UP Broadcasters' Guild's 8th anniversary, the org invited the Pinoy Dream Academy people for a symposium entitled: DREAMWEACERS: the Materialization of Dreams in Philippine Reality TV.

Nakakainis kasi di ko naabutan ang buong sympo dahil me thesis proposal presentation kami that day at humabol lang ako in time para marining ang final messages at ang pagkanta nina Jay-R, Panky, Chad at Irish. Siyempre pati ng Headmaster na si Jim Paredes...

Cool kasi we had a chance na maging close sa kanila kahit sandali...

misadventures for a political story

Bambi are required to submit a 1.5 minuter political news story. As newbies in this field, we really found it difficult for us to do and gather enough materials for this.

It took us days before we were able to get a concrete lead. That was after we spent a lot of bucks, calling all the department offices, in our hopes that they can share us something good to cover.

We just went to the Congress, praying ardently that an issue would arise, or that the congressmen would somehow lose their cool and make a jungle out of the session. But to our dismay, they were so behaved. not minding the fact that only 80++ representatives were there.

HAY!!!!

So we just followed the lead on the motion for reconsideration filed by Representative Remulla regarding the wage increase bill.

Lucky enough, we got the respondents we need, though not in an easy manner. I was able to interview a labor group alliance. Bambi was able to get an interview with a factory owner and got footages of the factory workers too.

But before that was a long way walk along Makati. After being bashed a lot of times by Chinese businessmen, and after a lot of off-the-record interviews!!!!!

i just passed by to update my so outdated blog. a lot of things have happened in my life; and it is just that i am so busy with these things that i wasn't able to update you guys.

I am now working on the RRL part of our thesis. I am so inspired to write that part that i decided to go online for a while just to while my time. hahahaha....

Anyways, i also am in this crossroad whether or not i'll join this friend of mine's business venture. It really is quite amusing, but i don't think i can manage my time well with that.

What else, i also have a new baby to take care of. Figuratively and literally... hahaha! mamatay kayo kakaisip!
